Guidelines for ISSSWQ Young Scientist Award

The Indian Society of Soil Salinity and Water Quality (ISSSWQ) has introduced an Award for Young Scientists in “Management of Soil Salinity and Poor-Quality Water” to promote excellence in the field of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. The Award will be known as the “ISSSWQ Young Scientist Award”. The award will be governed by the following rules and regulations of the society:

  1. The award is biennial and will be bestowed upon the selected scientist in the plenary session of the biennial convention of the society.
  2. The award is open to all young scientists below 40 years of age (as on 31st December, 2024) for the biennium 2023–24. The scientist must be a life member of the society at the time of application.
  3. The award will be given for outstanding research work carried out by young scientists in the field of salinity management and poor-quality waters, belonging to any discipline of agriculture or relevant sciences, during the years preceding the award.
  4. A soft copy of the application form, as per the prescribed format, including a set of research papers and all necessary proofs (first page only), must be submitted via email by 15th October, 2025. All proofs must be dated on or before 31st December, 2024. In case of any discrepancies between the Application Form and the Scorecard, the marks and criteria provided in the Scorecard shall be treated as final for evaluation purposes.
  5. A panel of experts constituted by the President of the society will evaluate the biodata of the applicants. The weightage for the biodata, as per guidelines, will be 85 marks. These marks will not be revealed to the expert panel constituted to evaluate the presentation.
  6. The top five scorers in the biodata will be considered for making a presentation before the Expert Committee in a special session during the convention/conference/seminar/symposium of the society. The presentation will be of 15 minutes (maximum), wherein the applicant will present their significant achievements and future research plans. A five-minute discussion may follow. Applicants who fail to make the presentation will cease to be considered for the award. An expert panel constituted by the President will evaluate the presentation, for which a weightage of 15 marks is assigned.
  7. The applicant receiving the highest marks out of 100, with the approval of the President or his nominee, will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, the highest marks obtained in the application/biodata will take precedence. If still tied, the younger contestant will be given preference over the elder(s).
  8. The award consists of a citation/plaque and a certificate of recognition.
  9. A person can receive the “ISSSWQ Young Scientist Award” only once in a lifetime.
  10. In case of any discrepancies between the Application Form and the Evaluation Scorecard, the marks and criteria provided in the Scorecard will be treated as final for evaluation purposes.
  11. Nominations/applications are invited by the ISSSWQ. The announcement along with proforma will be made available on the society website (https://issswq.com/). The duly filled applications as per the prescribed proforma (one hard copy and soft copy) should be sent to the General Secretary, Indian Society of Soil Salinity and Water Quality (ISSSWQ), ICAR-CSSRI Campus, Karnal, Haryana-132001 (Email: issswq2008@gmail.com).
